This is the first part of a series dedicated to the clients that have worked with us. We will showcase how they have moved through the ranks using Stand Out Sports highlight reels.
This first instalment profiles Nowel Maarhuis, who we worked with in March, 2017 down in the Lower Mainland, during his tenure with the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds. We spoke with his parents who had advised that Nowel wanted to pursue an education through hockey and that the next logical step was to go play at the Junior A level. They saw the value of being able to market talent to coaches who may not have the means to view a player in person.
After filming two games versus the Greater Vancouver Canadiens, we had enough footage to compile a 3-5 minute highlight reel (see below), with multiple angles and an advanced graphic to denote his presence and movement on the ice. We also put our trailer style version on our Instagram page and gained over 10,000 views!
Recently, we discovered he signed with the Grande Prairie Storm of the AJHL.
This is a huge step for any player to make as he is on the right path to pursuing an education through hockey.
We wish him and his folks all the best of luck in this new journey and will be rooting for him to succeed in the future.
Here is the excerpt from the Storm's site:
Storm add size and skill on the back end with Maarhuis.
"The Storm are excited to announce the signing of 99 Defensemen Nowel Maarhuis. The 6’2” 205lbs BC product played all 40 regular season games last year for the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds of the BCMML. Nowel led all Fraser Valley D in goals with 5, while adding 10 assists and an impressive team leading 86 penalty minutes.
Coach Keillor: 'The first time I saw Nowel he wasn’t hard to notice, usually when you see someone that big and that strong the first thing you think is he won’t be able to skate. That’s not the case with Nowel, he has the ability to skate with the puck and make plays under pressure. He has great hands for a big guy and he can really shoot the puck. When talking with our BC contacts I kept hearing words like big, mean, skilled, and can skate; that sounded like someone we wanted to pursue".
Nowel will join fellow new Storm Noah Walters August 25th when main camp opens at Revolution Place. Stop by Revolution Place to order your season tickets today. More signings to come!"
